A flotilla of new cruise ships and diverse ports of call are boosting Australia’s cruise boom to even higher peaks.

australiancruisingnews.com has no doubt the continent is finally seen as  a top destination by  international cruise lines.

This summer sees a record 34 ships in Australian waters with Sydney remaining the signature port while other capital cities are showing continued growth.

Fifteen different cruise ships are currently sailing round-trip cruises from Australian ports while another 19 ships are visiting – with all delivering an ocean of choices to would-be cruisers.

Brett Jardine, of Cruise Line International Australasia (CLIA), says 2014 is also a big year for Australia’s regional towns such as Robe and Port Lincoln in South Australia opening their port facilities to larger cruise ships for the first time. Eden in New South Wales, Geelong (Victoria) and Exmouth (Western Australia) are also seeing more ships in port, cruising.org.au

P&O Cruises is the first cruise line to call at Queensland’s Moreton Island, and the company’s senior vice-president Tammy Marshall says Robe, Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island, are other new ports on P&O itineraries this year.

Next year, Busselton in Western Australia will be added to some P&O cruise itineraries as the scenic town is a gateway to the much lauded Margaret River region which is renowned for award-winning wineries, boutique breweries, chocolate factories, wildlife, and impressive underground caves, pocruises.com.au

Adam Armstrong, commercial director of Royal Caribbean Cruises, says the Australian cruise market is now far more sophisticated and Australians know what they really want from a holiday at sea.

The company currently has Celebrity Century and sister ship Celebrity Solstice  in Australian waters this year as well as Rhapsody of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas which all offer their own distinctive style onboard, royalcaribbean.com.au
