Game of Thrones: Crystal Cruises has tapped into the public frenzy over HBO’s TV series Game of Thrones (showing in Australia on Foxtel) by running shore excursions on Crystal Symphony that focus on key sites in Ireland where the production is filmed.

There is an “Enter the Game of Thrones” tour to the show’s locations in Northern Ireland, on a 7-night cruise of the British Isles from Dublin to London on August 24.

The land tour in Northern Ireland takes cruise guests into mythical medieval life to see how centuries-old castles and towers are transformed into “Thrones” sets at Strangford Lough’s Castle Ward estate, and at the 15th century Audley’s Castle, both in County Down, wiltrans.com.au

The Grand Budapest Hotel: Cunard has announced that director Wes Anderson of the much-lauded film The Grand Budapest Hotel will sail on its flagship Queen Mary 2 next month, where he will be joined by actors Tilda Swinton,Jason Schwartzman and the screenplay writer-producer Roman Coppola who all worked on that film.

Passengers onboard the seven-night transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton will see screenings of the film and take part in a Q&A session with The Grand Budapest Hotel celebrities in Queen Mary 2’s Royal Court Theatre.

Since Queen Mary 2’s debut, the ship has welcomed film notables such as George Lucas, Uma Thurman, and John Cleese, and in August, singer-songwriter James Taylor will be performing on board, cunardline.com.au

FIFA World Cup:  Football fans can watch all 64 games of the upcoming FIFA World Cup onboard Princess Cruises’  ships including the Australian-based Sea Princess and Dawn Princess, during June and July.

The matches will be seen on the ships’ Movies Under the Stars outdoor screens on deck, and football fans on these cruises will also take part in World Cup football-themed activities, princess.com
