Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic has announced its Galapagos Artist-In-Residence program for guests on selected voyages in August and September. On board there will be environmental artists Amy Bartlett Wright and Jonathan Alderfer who will create an in-depth experience about Galapagos’ unique wildlife in drawing sessions. The Artist-in-Residence program is one of Lindblad’s philanthropic commitments to economically support the artisan community in Galapagos. Guests will also get the chance to experience the cruise line’s glass workshop where local artisans transform trash-to-treasure such as recycled paper into jewellery or waste glass into art items, expeditions.com

 Ponant, the boutique French line, has ordered four new expedition ships that will boast underwater lounges with windows looking right into the sea. Each of the new ships will also have a versatile platform aft that will function as a sundeck when the ship is under sail, and as a disembarkation point for zodiacs when at a standstill. The platform will also serve as as a launching pad for kayaking, water skiing and other water sports. Ponant expects to take delivery of the first new ship in 2018, ponant.com

Cunard is the latest cruise line to offer inclusive drinks, from speciality coffee to selected wines and other alcoholic mixers, in the bars, lounges and restaurants onboard Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria. The offer is available on some of next year’s world voyages of 15 nights or more, depending on stateroom status, cunard.com

Carnival Cruise Line reckons it has backed a another winner with Carnival Spirit’s 6-night sailing to the Melbourne Cup Carnival in November, with an itinerary packed with racing revelry that will put punters in the spirit of the big racing event. Departing October 30 from Sydney, the cruise includes entry to the Melbourne Cup and to Crown Oaks Day at Flemington racecourse, carnival.com.au
