TIMES ARE A-CHANGING

As singer Bob Dylan noted decades ago “The times they are a-changing”.

It is certainly the case on the cruise front where even the super-rich (who often take to the high seas in private yachts) are looking to charter ocean cruise ships to entertain their hundreds of BBFs (best friends forever).

A recent news report has Australian trucking magnate Lindsay Fox chartering the ultra luxury cruise ship Seabourn Odyssey for a 7-day cruise from Athens to Venice to celebrate his 80th birthday with around 400 of his BBF, most of whom are also “movers and shakers” in the business world.

Seabourn is a cruise line where just about everything on board is included from five different dining venues to complimentary wines and spirits throughout the voyage. Not even tipping is required or expected.

If the Fox celebrations had been later in the year, the partygoers could have taken Seabourn Odyssey’s epicurean voyage in the Mediterranean with the cruise line’s head sommelier Sebastian Pacheco who will host a wine-themed cruise from Athens to Monte Carlo in October.

There will be wine experts on board the cruise with tastings and pairings as well as winery tours and special events on shore. There will also be a “shopping with the chef” event, cooking demonstration, and a special pasta dinner.

Tony Archbold, Seabourn’s Australian director of sales says wine is an important aspect of the cruise line’s award-winning culinary offering.

“Guests on the epicurean cruise will enjoy Sebastian’s infectious passion for wine as he leads them on a very special journey through the Med,” he adds, seabourn.com
